Berman and Company, a full-service public relations firm, has earned five Pollie Awards for its issue advocacy work in 2024. The Pollie Awards, sponsored by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), are regarded as the “Oscars of political advertising” by Esquire Magazine and set the benchmark for excellence in political communications and public affairs.

“At Berman, we specialize in changing the debate,” said owner and partner Jack Hubbard. “We appreciate the recognition for our unique form of advocacy and issue management.”

The firm secured two gold and three silver Pollie Awards for creative and impactful campaigns. Among the winning projects was a research-driven initiative targeting California’s $20 fast food minimum wage. The survey of state restaurants, followed by a media tour, highlighted unintended consequences of the policy for businesses and workers alike.

“We’re unafraid to call out politicians and other bad actors for pushing harmful policies,” said Mike Saltsman, firm owner and partner, and executive director of the Employment Policies Institute. “We’re thrilled to see our research make such a big splash in the wage debate that is unfolding in California.”

Another gold-winning effort was a striking national television commercial comparing healthcare middlemen to parasitic leeches. The spot portrays a conversation between a doctor and patient, with the patient later realizing that leeches are literally draining him. Media outlets described the ad as “compelling” and noted it “pulls no punches.”

“Creating catchy ad concepts and striking visuals is our real bread and butter,” said partner Jamey Bowers, who leads the firm’s award-winning creative team. “In my three decades at Berman, we continually try to push the envelope with memorable ads.”
