Equinix has widened access to Microsoft Azure at its data centres in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, giving businesses in Malaysia and Indonesia direct, private connections to the cloud platform instead of routing traffic through the public internet or overseas. Direct Private Connectivity, No Public Internet Required

Equinix has expanded Microsoft Azure connectivity within its International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Jakarta, Indonesia. Instead of relying on public internet pipelines, or sending traffic outside the country to reach the cloud, businesses in both markets can now plug their private infrastructure straight into Azure locally.

Equinix describes the move as strengthening its broader cloud ecosystem, giving enterprises the tools to build distributed, resilient digital infrastructure that can support AI innovation and business-critical workloads throughout the region.

Accelerating Malaysia's 'AI Nation' 2030 Ambitions

Malaysia has set its sights on becoming an "AI Nation" by 2030, aiming to use AI to improve public services and open up new economic opportunities. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently launched the AI Malaysia initiative alongside the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, targeting a top-10 position on global AI indices, up to 1.2 percentage points of incremental GDP growth from AI, and 300,000 new AI-related jobs by the end of the decade.
