Long-lasting battery, lighter design and on-device AI aim at demanding field work

Panasonic has launched the TOUGHBOOK G3, a 10.1-inch rugged tablet that it says delivers a major step forward in battery life, mobility and edge AI processing for critical workflows in demanding environments.

Battery built for long shifts

The G3 offers a new battery pack structure and a 99Wh battery, the largest capacity available in any TOUGHBOOK. It is designed for long shifts where power-hungry, AI-driven applications are in use. The tablet is hot-swappable, and an optional new bridge battery allows seamless switching without turning the device off. Panasonic cites runtimes of up to around 24 hours with the largest battery.

AI-ready performance

Positioned as a TOUGHBOOK AI PC, the G3 runs on the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 platform with dual-channel RAM and Windows 11 Pro. With Copilot+ capabilities, it can collect, store and analyze mission-critical data at the edge without a continuous cloud connection. Customers can choose between an Intel Core Ultra 5 335 and a more powerful Core Ultra X7 368H.

Rugged and agile

The G3 pairs a lightweight, compact and modular design with:

  • Durability. Designed to IP66 standards for dust and water, with vibration testing to MIL-STD 810H, drop resistance from 180 cm, and operation from -29°C to 63°C.

  • Touch. A Full HD+ display with AdaptiveTouch technology that recognizes finger, stylus and glove input.

  • Management. Fleet configuration through TOUGHBOOK Guard.

Panasonic also says TOUGHBOOK is the only rugged line certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Device Edge.

One caveat

The company's footnotes say the G3 is currently certified to IP65, with IP66 certification still pending. The previous model was also IP65.
